How to Choose the Right Bra

Comfort. Quality. A fit that works. Here's what really matters.

For many women, buying a bra is something they’ve done dozens of times — and still don’t feel confident about.
Whether you’re shopping for yourself or helping a customer find the right fit, here are key tips that can make a real difference.

  1. Start with a clear purpose

Before you even look at sizes, ask: what is this bra for?
Is it for daily wear? A specific outfit? A special occasion? A high-impact workout?
Knowing the purpose helps narrow down the right support level, shape, and structure from the start.

  1. Get fitted — in person

There’s no substitute for a professional fitting.
Even if you know your size, different brands and styles can feel very different.
A good lingerie fitter will help you identify not only the right number and cup — but the right shape, coverage, and tension for your body.

  1. Bring the outfit with you

If you’re buying a bra to wear under a certain dress or blouse, bring the garment with you.
This way, you can check if the straps are hidden, if the lines stay smooth, and if the fabric lays well over the bra.

  1. Don’t assume your old size still fits

Your body changes — whether slightly or significantly — and so do sizing systems across brands.
Always try a new bra on. A proper fit should feel secure without digging in or shifting.

Checklist:
✔ The band stays in place and doesn’t ride up
✔ The cups sit flat against the body, no gapping or spilling
✔ The straps feel firm, but not tight or sliding

  1. Test it in motion — not just in front of the mirror

A bra should move with you, not against you.
When trying it on, raise your arms, twist, bend — see how it holds up in real life.
If you’re constantly adjusting or aware of it, it’s not the right bra.

  1. Choose the right shape for your needs
  • Full coverage bras offer more support and security for everyday wear
  • Wide straps distribute pressure more evenly across the shoulders
  • Seamless styles work best under light or fitted clothing

  1. Stick to neutral tones for daily use

If you’re buying a bra for regular wear, go for neutral tones:

  • Nude/beige works under most light fabrics
  • Black is ideal under dark clothes
  • White is actually more visible under white clothing than nude

  1. Keep a basic rotation

Most women benefit from at least four types of bras:

  • A supportive everyday bra
  • A wire-free or lounge bra for home and rest
  • A sports bra for workouts
  • A seamless or smooth bra for tailored or dressy outfits

  1. Replace regularly — bras don’t last forever

Even a high-quality bra loses shape over time.
If the band has stretched, the straps have loosened, or the cups don’t sit like they used to — it’s time to retire it.
For bras worn regularly, replacement is typically needed every 6–12 months.

The right bra doesn’t just support your body — it supports your day.
Choose one that makes you feel like yourself.
